Dalbeattie Tai chi

The first of the 10 week block of classes took place on Wednesday in the town hall in Dalbeattie and 12 out of 15 participants attended. The class went well and everyone enjoyed it although the room was rather large and the acoustics could have been better. Julie’s music was rather lost so we will have to find bigger speakers for next time.

Julie is our volunteer who teaches the tai chi classes and it would be wonderful if we could clone her. There is a lot of demand for tai chi in the Stewartry and so hopefully we can train some more volunteers next year.

“I Could Eat A Horse”

The Glenkens cooking group were chosen by the theatre company ‘A Moment’s Peace’ to represent Dumfries & Galloway along with Dumfries High School and Gatehouse Primary.

I Could Eat A Horse is a multi-artform project exploring the diverse relationships that individuals and communities have with food and the food industry. It investigates personal choices around food consumption to examining who is in control of our access to food.

The theatre company worked with the three groups in Dumfries & Galloway and three groups in each of Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh and Glasgow, producing 12 short films. Wednesday saw the first local screening at the Catstrand in New Galloway alongside an interactive event which provoked debate amongst the audience.

The Glenkens group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and created a wonderful film which promoted ‘growing old disgracefully’.

I am hoping to get a copy of this film next year and will hopefully be able to set up a link to it and share it with everyone.
